Onboard graphics card and additional can work together. This technology named as Hybrid Technology. Both ATi and nVidia adopt this technology. Today’s onboard technology couldn’t be take alook aside. A kind of technology-about graphics card – comes to booming is the Hybrid Technology that combine onboard graphics with additional graphics card to perform better view than using single graphics card.
When we use additional graphics card, on board graphics card become unused. After Hybrid Technology found we can use both. On board & additional graphics card work together. Two big company in graphics card, ATi and nVidia released Hybrid Technology in the same time. ATi named this technology as “Hybrid CrossFireX” (or Hybrid CrossFire), and nVidia presented “Hybrid SLI” as their hybrid graphics card. The Hybrid system couldn’t apply in every computer system but some requirement needed. Mainboard and graphics card should be support to Hybrid system. Mainboards produced by ATi that support Hybrid CrossFire system are mainboard with AMD 780-AMD 780G and AMD 780V chipset. All these onboard graphics cards are support to DirectX 10 and Shader Model 4.0 that very good to perform Windows Vista theme. What about nVidia? nVidia owned many varies mainboards that support Hybrid SLI. These mainboards are GeForce with 8100, 8200 and 8300 chipsets, and for nForce chipsets are 720a,730a, 750a SLI and 780a SLI. Other than desktop, Hybrid SLI are designed for Notebook. Mainboard that support Hybrid Technology for Notebook is GeForce 9100M G chipset, and the onboard graphics card that support are with GeForce 9200M GS, 9300M GS, 9500M G, 9600 GS, 9600M GT and 9650M GT chipsets. Add on graphics card from nVidia that support for Hybrid system are GeForce 8400GS, 8500GT, 9800GTX and9800GX2. From ATi come only Radeon HD 2400 and 3400 series. The Hybrid Technology required graphics card & mainboard with same chipset. For example mainboard with GeForce 8200 can be combine with nVidia chipset graphics card, and mainboard with AMD790G can be combine with ATi chipset.
